Future Letter Writing Guide
New to FutureLetter? This guide provides tips on writing effective future letters and making the most of our service.
πGetting Started
Go to the letter writing page and enter your title and content. Using Markdown syntax will help you create more beautiful letters.
Choose a theme that matches the mood of your letter from 12 available themes. Spring, summer, autumn, and winter themes also include seasonal animation effects.
Select the recipient's email address and delivery date/time. Letters are scheduled based on your current browser (device) timezone.
Review your content and schedule your letter. Scheduled letters cannot be modified or canceled, so please review carefully.
βοΈWriting Tips
Write specific goals and plans. Instead of 'I want to succeed,' write something specific like 'I want to learn a new skill within a year' - it will feel more meaningful later.
Honestly record your current emotions and thoughts. Describe specific situations and feelings so your future self can understand who you are now.
Use Markdown syntax to structure your letter. Using headings, lists, and blockquotes will make your letter easier to read and more beautiful.
Ask questions. Questions like 'Did I achieve my goals?' or 'What kind of person have I become?' provide deep reflection for your future self.
Include positive messages and words of encouragement. Leave warm words that will help your future self when they're going through tough times.
βBest Practices
Choose Appropriate Delivery Dates
It's better to allow at least a month or more rather than choosing dates too close (within a week). Choosing meaningful dates like birthdays, New Year's, or anniversaries makes the experience more special.
Write Letters Regularly
Schedule letters for multiple dates like 1 year later, 5 years later to track your changes over time. Sending letters on the same date each year creates a record of growth.
Backup with PDF Download
After receiving your letter, download it as a PDF and save it on your personal device. Letters are automatically deleted from the server after 3 months, so be sure to backup if you want permanent storage.
Use Templates
When writing your first letter, refer to templates. Templates are just a starting point, so feel free to add your own stories and emotions.
π‘Use Cases
Year-End/New Year Goal Setting
Send your goals and resolutions to yourself one year later at the end of the year or New Year's. When you receive the letter a year later, you can check if you've achieved your goals and set new ones.
Birthday Celebration Letter
Write a letter the day before your birthday to receive it on your birthday. It becomes a special birthday gift from your past self to your future self.
Recording Before and After Important Decisions
Write a letter before making an important decision, and receive it after some time has passed. You can compare your thoughts at the time with the results of your decision.
Expressing Gratitude to Loved Ones
Write a letter of gratitude and love to family, friends, or loved ones to be delivered in the future. Letters received on special days are even more meaningful.
